Fort Wayne Back Pain Relief via Chiropractic Treatment Plan of Manipulation and Exercise

February 28, 2023

A new clinical trial is underway to study the effectiveness of a 6-week specific rehab program combining education and exercises on walking capacity in those who have lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Cox Chiropractic Medicine Inc knows these Fort Wayne spinal pain conditions quite well…and offers a relieving treatment plan of Cox® Technic spinal manipulation and mobilization with exercise!

EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS TESTED

The aim of this preposed study is to investigate whether the addition of an exercise program to an educational program can improve walking capacity in those who have lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Being a randomized controlled clinical trial, 60 participants will be randomly divided into either the control group or the intervention group. The intervention group will get an educational program plus an exercise program, while the control group will only receive the educational program. The main outcome measure is walking capacity, while the secondary outcome measures are pain intensity, disability level, and quality of life. (1) Cox Chiropractic Medicine Inc knows our Fort Wayne spinal stenosis patients are very interested in these outcomes!

LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS WITH NEUROGENIC CLAUDICATION

Lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication is a condition that causes narrowing of the spinal canal in the low back area, which in turn puts pressure on the nerves. This can lead to pain, numbness, and weakness in the legs and buttocks. In severe cases, it can also cause difficulty walking. The condition is most common in people over 50 years old. These are just the people in Fort Wayne who need to keep (or at least begin) exercising!

THE EXERCISES

The specific exercises that will be utilized in this trial are made to enhance walking capacity by stretching and strengthening the muscles surrounding the spine. The hope is that by doing these exercises on a regular basis, patients will experience less pain and disability and experience an improved quality of life.

THE CONTROL GROUP

The control group in this trial will only get an educational program about their condition and how to control it. While education is valuable, it is not typically enough on its own to provide significant relief from symptoms. That's why the addition of an exercise program is so significant. It includes the back pain sufferer in his or her relief! Listen to this PODCAST with Dr. Michael McMurray on The Back Doctors Podcast with Dr. Michael Johnson as he details The Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management for lumbar spinal stenosis.
