Fort Wayne Chiropractic Care of Headache and Tips for Headache and Migraine Prevention

September 17, 2019

Headaches and migraines are never welcome. Headache sufferers are usually quite ready for tips on how to avoid them. Over 50 years of age, sufferers of migraine, a primary headache, find themselves part of a global community with migraine being a leading cause of disability. (1) Cox Chiropractic Medicine Inc has some prevention tips and treatment relief ideas just for our Fort Wayne headache and migraine sufferers.

DIET AND WEIGHT

A healthy diet feeds the body and the mind. Researchers have noticed that migraine triggers come in a variety of forms - environmental, hormonal, and dietary. A high-quality diet successfully helps handle migraine. Further, and more expressly, women with chronic migraine consumed a lower diet quality than that of women who experienced episodic migraine. (2) A new study was even more specific with the type of diet beneficial to migraine patients, specifically those who are overweight. A very low-calorie ketogenic diet was found to be preventive of episodic migraines. Effectiveness was observed within one month of the diet change. (3) Cox Chiropractic Medicine Inc is not recommending that any of our patients try a particular diet now! If a Fort Wayne headache sufferer wants to try a new diet, Cox Chiropractic Medicine Inc is here to talk and determine which diet (if any special one) is appropriate.

NUTRITION: Vitamin D

In much the same way, vitamin D supplementation is presented. Vitamin D deficiency has been documented in 45% to 100% of migraine sufferers. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities of vitamin D have opened its supplementation to considered inclusion in the care and prevention of headache and migraine. One study reported that trial doses of 1000-4000 IU per day decreased the frequency of migraine including the routine drug therapy. More analysis needs to be completed, but vitamin D supplementation seems encouraging. CHIROPRACTIC AND INTEGRATIVE CARE

Headaches of all sorts – primary headaches like migraine and tension-type headache – are frequent complaints brought to the Fort Wayne chiropractor. Research stated that complementary and integrative medicine - nutrition, movement (yoga), manual therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage, biofeedback, meditation, and mind-body strategies – was beneficial. More specifically, spinal manipulation, chiropractic care, some supplements, diet change and hydrotherapy are reported helpful for migraine headache. (4)
